Sacramento, capital of the state of California, lies at the confluence of the Sacramento River and American River. One of several museums in Old Sacramento, the California State Railroad Museum, depicts the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, one of the country’s earliest technological feats.

The Sacramento Zoo is located in William Land Park in Sacramento, California. It opened on 1927, with 40 animals. At that time, it occupied 4.2 acres, which remained the case until the early 1960's when the zoo expanded to its current 14.3 acres.

The Sacramento Kings are an American professional basketball team based in Sacramento, California. The Kings compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Western Conference's Pacific Division.The Kings are the only team in the major professional North American sports leagues located in Sacramento. The team played its home games at the Sleep Train Arena from 1988 to 2016; beginning with the 2016 – 2017 season, the Kings play home games at the Golden 1 Center.
The Kings are the oldest franchise in the NBA, and one of the oldest continuously operating professional basketball franchises in the nation.
